Amazing effort by both the students and staff. As part of event, OIC’s founder Weh Yeoh did a q&a session for the students so they could expand their knowledge of the challenges that are currently faced by children in Cambodia with speech and swallowing difficulties. Our Day Without Speech events are much more than just fundraisers. As a result, he had problems speaking to the point where his language wasn’t clear at all and he struggled to be understood. Despite being 10 years old at the time, he had never been to school and couldn’t read, write or bathe himself. He was completely dependant on his family, destined to earn an income through begging. Those around him labelled him “chqoot” – a Cambodian word translated as “stupid”, but when Weh met Ling for the first time he could see that he wasn’t stupid. It is estimated that 1 in 25 Cambodians need speech therapy, and yet there are currently no Cambodian speech therapists in the country, and until 2019 there was no government policy addressing the issue. Having worked with many iconic brands, he has developed strong strategic capability, based on data and insights, cross-functional operating planning, and broad stakeholder management. He is driven to deliver clear, effective, and sustainable organisational outcomes. Russell holds a Master of Business Administration (Deakin University), is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Chartered Manager & Fellow (CMgr FIML) of the Institute of Managers and Leaders, and a Fellow & Certified Practising Marketer (CPM) of the Australian Institute of Marketing. His Directorial experience began through active involvement in peak industry bodies and associations, moving to Chairing a privately held commercial enterprise. Interest is now directed to Board roles within the NFP sector.
